About KT's A.R.C

Ever feel a pull towards seemingly different worlds? For me, home has always been defined by the comforting weight of a purring cat on my lap. But recently, that world has expanded to include the intricate, often-overlooked lives of invertebrates and the captivating, prehistoric beauty of reptiles.

As my family has grown from a few pets to a bustling household of over 60 animals, I needed a space that covered it all.

Welcome to KT’s A.R.C.

“A” is for the Arachnids

My foray into the world of invertebrates was unconventional—it began as a way to confront a phobia. A few years ago, spiders would send shivers down my spine. It was Minx, a tiny jumping spider, who changed everything. Her inquisitive eyes made me see them in a new light.

That curiosity blossomed into a full-blown obsession. I went from fearing spiders to keeping a room full of them—from massive South American tarantulas like Dagda to scorpions, mantids, and beetles. Each one challenges the perception that “creepy” means “scary.”

“R” is for the Reptiles

While the spiders were about overcoming fear, the reptiles were about fulfilling a childhood fascination. I was always captivated by their sleek movements, but it wasn’t until December 2023 that I finally welcomed Cassiopeia, my first Ball Python.

I thought she would be the only one. I was wrong. My reptile family exploded, and what started as one snake quickly grew into a rescue and rehabilitation mission, bringing Draco (the bearded dragon), Andromeda (the rescue gecko), and several others into the fold.

“C” is for the Cats

While the rest of the zoo is new and exciting, the cats are my foundation. From the age of four, there has never been a day without a feline presence in my life.

My most profound connection was with Smudge, a wonderful cat who stayed by my side from the tender age of four until I was twenty-five. She taught me about the quiet understanding that exists between species. That bond continues today with Tilly (my spirit cat) and Apopse (the agent of chaos), who supervise the entire operation.

The Mission: Welfare Without Compromise

KT’s A.R.C. is the space where these three worlds collide, but it is also a living archive. I began documenting this journey because there is a profound gap between simply “keeping” an animal and truly understanding one.

I am a firm believer that “surviving” is not “thriving.” For every individual in this house, I strive to provide an environment that honors their biological niche, rooted in modern, high-welfare science:

Environmental Complexity: We go far beyond the bare minimum. Whether it’s custom 3D-printed climbing structures for a python, bio-active terrariums for the geckos, or dedicated vertical wall shelves for the feline supervisors, the goal is total mental and physical stimulation.

Precision & Safety: I utilize secondary Wi-Fi-controlled thermostats and live mobile monitoring for all reptile habitats. Having instant alerts and emergency fail-safes isn’t just a luxury—it is a moral obligation when lives are in your hands.

The Reward of the Keeper

People often ask what I get from dedicating so much time to animals that don’t always “love” you back in the traditional sense. The reward is the quiet trust. It’s the moment a defensive rescued snake finally relaxes, or watching a tiny tarantula sling reach its adult colours. It’s the peace that comes from knowing every creature here is safe and respected.

I am notoriously camera-shy (which is why I use a bit of AI magic for my portraits!), but through this site, I invite you into my world. I hope to share interesting facts, bust a few myths, and encourage curiosity for all living beings—whether they have fur, scales, or eight legs.
